Are you Googleddicted / googlchoholic?

There are many reasons why majority and me is a fan of Google. One reason is, only Google provides most related, logical search results. As an example, search for "PCI Express created by" (To know who has created PCI Express protocol). You wants to know, who has created PCI Express. And so you will type "PCI Express created by". This typed words are interpreated very smartly by Google understanding your need and so first words you will see in search results are "PCI Express - created by Intel"!! Google is smart enough to conclude about what exactly you are looking for and so what should be presented first. Google smartly decides that when you type "PCI Express created by" you are searching for company who has created PCI Express and so displays result accordingly!! Try it, or else have a look at following snap.

Google search gives you "what you WANT" not "what
you TYPE".

Similarly sear for "Google revenue". First words you will see is "Google - revenue 10.644 Bilion USD(2006)" !! Is not this amazing? At least for me it is.

Look at below pasted snaps for same searches in Yahoo. No where you will see smartness!!

Yahoo search results for "PCI Express created by".

Yahoo search result for "Yahoo revenue".

Yahoo search result for "Google revenue".

"New synonymous of find - Google."

I don't know why but I am finding all Google product very very addictive. Do you also feel the same way?? For me blogger, iGoogle, Orkut, gmail etc seems very addictive.

I had heared about Google blogger from my friend. So once, I just had look at it. I thought to give a try creating a blog. So i have followed simple steps mentioned and in first attempt I was able to create my blog! I can tell one thing, Good software/IT engineer is that whose user does not require to look at design's release note or user guide. Things should be intuitive and logical for user. That is what I have felt while creating blog. After creating a blog, I have posted one blog, just for testing purpose. And than becuase of Google blogger's attreactive look I had planned to keep on posting blogs. I was being attracted towards blogging because of easy-to-understand, simple blogger interface.

I have opened a word press blog account as well. I have posted an article just to give a try to wrodpress. But somehow I am not feeling to go again on word press to post another blog.

Colour combinations provided by blogger is superb. I mean, it makes me feel good. You post anything coming onto your mind. Post pictures. Post videos. And than after posting have a look at it in Google' blogger. You will feel good. Way your post is been presented on page is very catchy. Colour combination provided by Google is too good. Users of Google are not bound to do anything forcefully. User can change default colour combinations provided. Recently they have started allowing commenting through open ID. Which is one more proof proving that Google's Users are not bound to do anything forciblly. Google is even allowing to open Google account with user name as a mail ID from Yahoo or rediff or ...

  1. Wonderful and very informative.I can see the effort you have put on this post.Searching in the google was always a problem for many but there are simple steps to learn how google works internally.

    1. Type Explicit Phrase:
Lets say you are looking for content about Chak De India. Instead of just typing Chak De India into the Google search box, you will likely be better off searching explicitly for the phrase. To do this, simply enclose the search phrase within double quotes.

    Example: "Chak De India"

    2. Exclude Words:
Lets say you want to search for content about Chak De India, but you want to exclude any results that contain the term advertising. To do this, simply use the "-" sign in front of the word you want to exclude.

Example Search: Chak De India -advertising

    3. Site Specific Search:
Often, you want to search a specific website for content that matches a certain phrase. Even if the site doesn’t support a built-in search feature, you can use Google to search the site for your term. Simply use the "site:yashrajfilms.com" modifier.

    Example: "Chak De India" site:www.yashrajfilms.com/microsites/cdi/cdi.html

    4. Similar Words and Synonyms:
Let’s say you want to include a word in your search, but want to include results that contain similar words or synonyms. To do this, use the "~" in front of the word.

    Example: "Chak De India" ~movie

    5. Specific Document Types:
If you’re looking to find results that are of a specific type, you can use the modifier "filetype:". For example, you might want to find only PowerPoint presentations related to internet marketing.

    Example: "Incredible India" filetype:ppt

    6. This OR That:
By default, when you do a search, Google will include all the terms specified in the search. If you are looking for any one of one or more terms to match, then you can use the OR operator. (Note: The OR has to be capitalized).

Example: "C++ programming" or "C++ programmes"

    7. Phone Listing:
Let’s say someone calls you on your mobile number and you don’t know how it is. If all you have is a phone number, you can look it up on Google using the phonebook feature.

Example: phonebook:9999999999(note: the provided number does not work – you’ll have to use a real number to get any results :P).

    8. Area Code Lookup:
If all you need to do is to look-up the area code for a phone number, just enter the 6-digit area code and Google will tell you where it’s from.

    Example: 560100 - E-City Phase 2 Bangalore

    9. Numeric Ranges:
This is a rarely used, but highly useful tip. Let’s say you want to find results that contain any of a range of numbers. You can do this by using the X..Y modifier (in case this is hard to read, what’s between the X and Y are two periods. This type of search is useful for years (as shown below), prices or anywhere where you want to provide a series of numbers.

    Example: "Academy awards" 2006..2007

    10. Stock (Ticker Symbol):
Just enter a valid ticker symbol as your search term and Google will give you the current financial and a quick thumb-nail chart for the stock.

    Example: RPL
    for Reliance Petroleum

    11. Calculator:
The next time you need to do a quick calculation, instead of bringing up the Calculator applet, you can just type your expression in to Google.

    Example: 365*24*3600
    Second in the year !!!

    12. Word Definitions:
If you need to quickly look up the definition of a word or phrase, simply use the "define:" command.

    Example: define:democracy

I hope this too is quite informative for all the readers of this post.

  2. Hey Dear,
I thought, just saying 'thanks' to you will be very little. So i have posted a separate blog pasting your comments. After reading your comment I had to post separate blog. Reason is, 1) To make more people aware of what great Google provides, 2) To tell you thanks and be, remain thankful to you.
