Blog series - Learning Guitar lesson 1

On first day I had learned to play with open strings. Guitar strings are named (from thinner to thicker) E-B-G-D-A-E.

Following figure shows string names

It is advisable to have rest with your right hand's pinky finger while strumming a string with first and second fingers having a plectrum in hand.

Exercise :
E(up) B(down) G(up) D(down) A(up) E(down)
E(up) A(down) D(up) G(down) B(up) E(down)

Like this :

I believe that having mastery on fundamentals is distinguishing factor between winer and looser. This is the thing which can distinguish you from others after reaching some stage. Without exercising this as well you can start playing songs. If you will not have your fundamentals clear, you will be able to play slow songs but faster songs will be your lacking area. If I tell you the notes of songs you can play it. You will be able to play song slowly slowly, playing one by one note. You can remember a note as well but as your fingers are not moving fast you will not be able to play song with proper tempo. So mastery on this fundamental is must.

I had done other exercises on this open strings on first day. Exercise I had done are following (Play up down stroke):
EB BG GD DA AE (Moving from bottom string to top string)
EA AD DG GB BE (Moving from top string to bottom string)

EBG BGD GDA DAE (Moving from bottom string to top string)
EAD ADG DGB GBE (Moving from top string to bottom string)

EG BD GA DE (Moving from bottom string to top string)
ED AG DB GE (Moving from top string to bottom string)

Similarly you can have your own exercise.
Like EGBD BDGA GADE
EDAG AGBD DBGE .

Keep on exercising on this fundamentals. I had exercised this for 1 week.
